We are a small, rural Church of England school located in the village of Stogursey in the heart of the Quantock Hills in Somerset.
Our vision is to grow and nurture everyone in our school community, supporting both our pupils, their families and our staff to gain in knowledge and develop good character. Our mission is underpinned by the Christian principles of care, love, friendship, inner peace, hope and striving to connect positively with all in our community.
We achieve this by:
- Developing a powerful knowledge-rich curriculum.
- Offering a broad and engaging enrichment programme.
- Ensuring well-being is a dedicated subject in school.
- Focusing on character development in everything we do.
- Basing our teaching and learning decisions on evidence and research.
- Including the community in our activities.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated and we approach learning through ‘Learning Expeditions’ which combine knowledge, skills and experience to ensure children are prepared for the opportunities and responsibilities of life.
Currently we have three classes: Triscombe (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2), Alfoxton (Year 3 and Year 4) and Beacon (Year 5 and Year 6). Mixed age group learning is a feature of smaller primary schools and our experience shows that children benefit from mixing with their peers; developing a sense of responsibility and empathy for others and a resilience and curiosity for learning motivated by aspiration, encouragement and teamwork.
We are a proud member of the Quantock Education Trust and work in partnership with the Trust community to advance educational opportunities for our children.
As a church school we have chosen what St Peter, in his second epistle, said to the followers of Christ as the basis of our school motto: ‘Grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” It is an apt summary of our school purpose and mission.
